The Kestrels 3 Cullercoates 0
The fine weather enabled a match and it was a match that the Kestrels needed to win to get this season kicked off.
Still plenty of games to go and it'll be a tough run in but this was the start required on a fantastic day for football.
The Kestrels started the better and had two good chances when Webb turned and hit over and Irving shot wide when put through but they took the lead after 15 minutes when a corner swung over by Kane missed everyone and went in at the back post. The delivery of corners by Kane was excellent and caused problems all game for Cullercoates. At the back the four defence were well and truly on top of the attack and were led by some firce tackling by Callender and Stanton down the wings and Bramley and Conway helped each other out and worked well as a team in the middle. With Taylor breaking the play up well in front, the Kestrels pushed on and scored another goal when Atkinson hit one first time into the top corner to go two up at the interval.
In the second half , Cullercoates came out and had a go but when they had chances, Whittaker was sound and made two great saves. At the other end Webb smashed one from close range that somehow the keeper kept out and then Annis dribbled through and struck the far post with a great shot.
Eventually the thrid came ten minutes from the end when Conway put over a deep cross and Burnham smashed it in from ten yards to finish off the game.
All the team really gave their all today and all the subs who came on put the effort in when called upon. Well done all and hopefully a start.
