Wallsend Town Roma 3
Under 10's Falcons 2
Thomas R (1)
Jack T (1)

An excellent performance against top of the league side Wallsend Town, with the lads very unfortunate not to get at least a draw for their efforts.
Playing down the slope in the first half The Falcons played some great football without applying the finishing touch and were nearly punished when the Wallsend forwards were left with too much space towards the end of the first half, but luckily they wasted the chance.
It would have been harsh to have been a goal down at half-time, with everbody putting in a lot of effort especially in midfield where Cameron, Freddie and Harry never stopped running. At the back Jack S and James F looked very comfortable on the ball and anything that did get through was well dealt with by James N. Up front Thomas terrorised the Wallsend defence with his pace and with a bit more composure could have scored a couple of goals in the first half.
The effort of the first half took its toll with Harry having to be substituted.

Not having taken a deserved lead, we feared the worst for the second half as in the previous game against Red House Farm we were the better team in the first half but failed to score - conceding 6 without reply in the second half!

The second half started well and after 3 minutes The Falcons took the lead that they had deserved when Jack T. scored directly from a free-kick from about 25 yards.
Unfortunately we then let Wallsend back into the game with them equalising within 2 minutes.
Three minutes later we failed to close down and a Wallsend shot from 15 yards was well saved by James N, but unfortunately Wallsend reacted first to knock in the rebound.

Seventeen minutes into the second half, somehow Wallsend scored a third from a corner and we expected heads to drop, but the lads showed their character to battle back.
Another excellent move led to Cameron providing a great cross for Thomas less than a yard out in front of goal but somehow (I don't think we'll ever know how) he managed to hit the bar. Just as we thought we would never get back into the game Thomas made amends with an excellent goal to put us back into the game.

There was now less than 10 minutes left and the game was end to end, with a couple of good saves by James N keeping us in with a chance. At the other end Harry just failed to get a shot in after another good move, but then the chance came. A very strong run straight down the middle by Cameron took him into the box where he was tripped for a penalty.
Cameron took the responsibility himself but unfortunately put it wide - and that proved to be our last real chance.

Well done lads - a great performance which deserved more!
