HOW IT ALL BEGAN |
Founded at the City Stadium (The Tip), Heaton, in the East End of Newcastle upon Tyne in 1997 by John Bower, Rob Davidson and Sean Stobbs.
At that time very few clubs played in Royal Blue so this was chosen to be the club colour with yellow /blue to be the changed strip.
Unfortunately there was already a "team" called Heaton Boys so a new name had to be found. Sadly Heaton Boys have since folded.
The original team members were asked to submit club names and then it was put to the vote.
HEATON HAWKS F.C. was born.
After months of extreme hard work by the 3 lads and backed by the sponsorship of local firm, North East Garages, the club registered with the FA in November 1997. Immediately they entered two teams into the 1998/1999 season of the N.A.B.C. League at Under 10 & Under 11 levels. This proved to be a very successfull season with the Under 10's winning their league and the Central Youth Division Cup against West Denton. They also contested two other Cup Finals that season but although beaten, it was a great start for the Club.
The Under 11's results didn't fair quite as well but were an excellent footballing team. Most of the players were stalwarts of the great Heaton Manor School team that did exceptionally well at Local, County and National level in the early 2000's.
The English Football Association Charter Status Mark is testimony to the quality of a Football club's structure, policies and proceedures and this award was achieved in 2003. This was followed by the Lord Mayors' and High Sheriff's of Tyne and Wear Awards in "recognition of great and valuable services to the community." Nine years of continuous growth see us now accomodating thirteen teams ranging from Under 8's to Under 16's with well over 200 members. A nursery section is expected to be started soon. All our 11 a side teams play in the NABC Leagues whilst our Mini Soccer teams play in the Newcastle Mini Soccer League .
It is now time to move the club forward and with the acquisition of the old Heaton Manor School playing fields (off Benton Road), we will bring the club back together on one site for the first time since those early days. We look forward in anticipation to many good years ahead. At the moment a car-park is the main priority at "THE MANOR" . This was completed for games to commence on the first weekend in November 2005. We have had an excellent year back "home" but unfortunately we have to leave for another season. Most of our teams will play at Benfield School and the Academy pitches for the 2006/07 coming season. In the meantime drainage work and the pitch levelling process will commence at the beginning of September 2006. Once finished the Hawks will have an excellent new playing surface. During that period a perimeter fence will be erected. Unfortunately the car park cannot be extended but funding is being sort to build a four changing room pavilion. This will hopefully be completed for the start of the 2007/2008 season. The make shift changing rooms (old caretakers house) will then be revamped and made into a club house and kitchen area.
