ABOUT THE TEAM

Training on Thursday 9th.

Training is on still this week. Please be there for a 6pm start. Prompt.

The Kestrels 6 Longbenton 1

First mid-week game of the season and what a great all round team performance against a team that had the upper hand over us last season. The only down side was the first ten minutes again when we played like strangers and went behind. We need to hit the ground running and not give the teams an advantage from the off.

We came back well though and hit Longbenton with some fantastic attacking play. Firstly Annis was sent clear and hit the post but then hit the net a few minutes later with the exact same move and he finished well. A few minutes later, he had the same chance again but fired over but Gallagher put the Kestrels ahead a few minutes later when clean through, he placed it into the corner. Just before the break Baltazar was played clean through and with his first touch, he lobbed the keeper and sent the Kestrels in 3 1 up at the break.

In the second half we came out firing and Gallagher stretched the lead within minutes and with a tap in after great work from Jobling who had a blinder all game. The fifth came straight after when Gallagher finished clinically with a lob which was perfect. Longbenton came back but a couple of half chances were missed but the defence held firm and Baltazar crossed for Gallagher to get his 4th of the night after superb work by Taylor who was a rock in the middle again. We still had a couple of half chances but that was it and it has given us a great start to the seaon.
A few names to mention. Morris at the back was superb and Atkinson was really looking good. Taylor was covering every blade and Balatazar was always trouble for them. Jobling was fantastic up the right wing. Gallagher was Gallagher. Class act. Well done all the team though. Its a team game and that waht we saw tonight.

Well done again and thanks to all the parents for helping and their support. I know you would have enjoyed the play the Kestrels came out with tonight.

The Kestrels 3 Walker Central 2

The Kestrels kicked off their season with a tough looking game on the face of it and Walker provided a very tough start. From the start it was apparent that the wind was going to play a big part but it was across the pitch and therefore the same for both teams.

The Kestrels defended really well with Skipper Morris moving to centre half and leading from the front. All across the back four, Jobling, Conway, Morris and Atkinson played really well and limited Walker completley. In the end, the only goal of the first half was when Conway was brought down and unfortunatly the ref missed it. Bell had little chance with the finish but it was a very harsh goal and ref appologised at half time as he knew he had missed one. Well done him though for admitting it. We still had a chance to level when Gallagher put Webb clear and his shot hit the post and rolled along the line and clear to send us in trailing at the break.

In the second half, we were revitalised and came out the blocks quickly. Within a few minutes, Annis lashed one in from the edge of the box to go level and within minutes we scored a really good goal that was ruled out by the linesmans flag somehow.
We still kept on going and Gallagher burst through and was left with a one on one and he finished well to put the Kestrels 2 1 up. The best goal followed soon though, with a great ball by Taylor and Baltazar went down the left wing before pulling a great cross across the the area and Webb finished with a touch of class. We still had two or three great chances to kill the game off but couldn't score and Walker pulled one back with 5 minutes to go to make it a tense finish but the defence hung in there and never let them close enough to pull the goal back.
All in all, a great result to start off the season but still a long way to go. Well done all.
