Today we were down to the bare 11 with injuries and holidays but the lads showed us what they were made of with a tremendous gutsy performance.
Hawks took the game to West Denton and got their noses in front when Big Az turned in an easy efoort from 6 yards. Denton (assisted by the wind) came flying back at the Hawks as there midfield forged forward to assist the forwards. Hawks were under a bit of pressure when Denton scored from a peach of a shot. It was now time to hold firm so you dropped one back to strengthen midfield. This seemed to counteract Denton play but once again we didn't dealt with an over the top ball and found ourselves 2-1 down at halftime.
Gee up at half time and we came out fighting even though we struggled on with effectively 10 as Rea took a knock and struggled. This didn't impede the Hawks as we streamed forward time after time, attacking the Denton goal at will. It came as no surprise that
O' Donoghue equalised after good work from Az and we went on to win the tie with a "Wimbledon" type goal. Big kick from Keeper Thompson cleared fully 70 yards for O'Donoghue to latch on to a fire a fierce left footed shot into the net. 3 -2 and a well deserved victory for a team that never gave in. You were a credit to yourselves today lads
