Out of the cup, but a good effort after a poor first half.
We started poorly and couldnt handle the strength and will to win of this excellent City Juniors team as we rode our luck in the first half.
Although we didnt have much in midfield and up top, our back line handled them well, although we were 2 down at HT.
With an injury to Jamie early in the 1st half, and only having Luke on the bench after new boy Alex went down with a virus overnight, and Fiij still not fit meant that we didnt have any options to change things with only the bare 11 now.
We asked the lads to step it up in the 2nd half or we would be on the end of a hammering, and to be fair we started much better, although an early goal after a rare mistake at the back caused us to go 3-0 down.
I have to be honest ,and I thought we would be on the end of a high scoreline, but fair dues to you lads for not dropping your heads.
We pushed forward more now, and got the goal we deserved when after the ball was fed into Johns feet inside the box he set up Ross, who smashed the ball past the GK to make it 3-1.
This seemed to inspire us and it was a much more even game now, and it was no shock when later on John was wrestled off the ball inside the box and the referee had no hesitation in awarding the penalty.
Matty D stepped up to take it, but smashed it straight at the GK,but luckily managed to put in the rebound to make it 3-2.
We were going for it now, and went 3 at the back in the effort to draw level.
City were always dangerous, and on another day might have got another couple, but we needed to try and find the equaliser.
We ran out of time, and good luck to City Juniors in the final.
Again the good points were that in the 2nd half we matched them, and looked a different team to the one in the 1st half, but more importantly we never gave in, and against lesser teams we would have won I have no doubt.
Lets take these positives into our next game, and hopefully with a fully fit sqaud, we get some points in the bag.
