Tynemouth United 2

After last week's disappointing defeat the Kestrels were determined to make amends with the game played in brillaint sunshine but somewhat blustery at times. The Kestrels began attacking immediately and after sustained pressure L Thompson played in P Watson and a clever run by B Tait space was created for P Watson to move in on goal and hammer the ball past the advancing keeper. Further pressure failed to create clear cut chnaces but as with last week lessons were not learnt and a poor equaliser was conceded through a lack of challenges and a failure to clear the ball despite two chances to do so. To their credit, the Kestrels came straight back at Tynemouth and were rewarded with a finely taken goal again through P Watson although it followed a fine pass from B Tait. Half time came with the Kestrels leading 2-1.

The second half saw the Kestrels again in the ascendancy and excellent movement and passing resulted in number of half chances. H steanson and F Ahmed were towers in defence and an excellent ball winning performance from I Rodgers kept the Ketrels in control of the game. Surprsingly the third goal came from a route one move with A Stoker kicking the ball three-quarter way down the pitch and over the heads of the visitors for J Gerson t race clear and score a great goal with a cracking shot into the keeper's bottom corner. There was now relentless pressure on the visitor's goal but against the run off play the Kestrels conceded another sloppy goal by getting caught with too many players up the pitch and the ensuing counter attack saw a two against one situation for Tynemough which they duly converted. Again thius did not deter the Kestrels and it was only the heroics of the Tynemouth keeper which prevented a more emphatic scoreline. The Kestrels did add to their tally though when a fine ball from F Ahmed saw P Watson race clear and smash the ball into the roof of the net to complete a very fine hat-trick.

This was a very good performance especially in the second half with many fine individual performances but more importantly a good tem effort and it was particularly pleasing to see the support each player showed for their team mate even when conceding the two goals. Well done lads and lets maintain this level f performance.
