Under 9 Kestrels 4

Today was an away game against Blakelaw Magpies and I have to say a much improved Blakelaw from the last time we played them. Well we all tipped up at this 11 aside pitch that someone had placed mini soccer goals at each end. It has to be the biggest mini soccer pitch I’ve ever seen. But did it matter not at all.

We had most of the game in the first half but their big lad at the back was keeping our young striker Jones very quiet. So we tried Hardy up front but still nothing and that’s how the first have really went 10 shots off target no goal. Then all of a sudden against the run of play Blakelaw scored and went one up. This definitely knocked the wind out of the lads.

So second half I changed things round to counter there big lad by putting for the first time this season two strikers upfront. Then we had a game we pulled level with a superb strike from a good 20 yards which rippled in the back of the net, some strike some goal well done Hardy and you played your socks off today creating opportunities left right and centre a well deserved Man of the Match award well done!

But my take a bow! Moment has to go to a brilliant move of the match this lad picked the ball a little past the half way line powered down the pitch and crossed a sublime ball into the box which resulted in a goal so Jones take a bow lad take a bow. You had a cracking game along with Burr our formidable left wing scored two today and was always asking questions of the magpies that they just could not answer. He might have had a hatrick if it wasn’t for a shot that just went wide which he blamed on a missing football stud; I have my suspicions on that excuse though.

Our Captain and vice captain were back on form Forster worked like the Trojan we know he is today even receiving massive praise from the oppositions manger after returning to the field after a heavy tackle in the first half which if was any later it would have happened tomorrow. Colquhoun as well had a great game powering down that right wing and so unlucky not to add to his goal tally today. Good effort lads well done.

Our new defensive quadruplet again proved they are a hard nut to crack. Banister, Davie-Howe and keepers Newton and Nicholson again played really strong. The opposition never really had much of a sniff apart from to lucky chances which on the very rare occasion caught the fantastic four off guard.

Last mention but by no means least goes to our recently returned from injury Colledge who played his socks off on the left and got some good efforts on goal and came so close. Wright who had one hell of a strike a good 25 yards out struck the ball magnificently but only a equal save from the keeper stopped him from getting on to the score sheet. Maher again is becoming more and more of an asset to the team. A multi positional player is always a great card to be able to play and when he has a shot like that he remains my formidable secret weapon.

Great game great result well done each and every one of you.
